Congratulations on your business successes, last month. And if there weren’t so many, then congratulations on your persistence in working to overcome the obstacles in your way!

A problem is just an everyday part of business life, as we all know. Some are simple, some are complex. But as Thomas J. Watson, founder of IBM, said:

“Solve it. Solve it quickly, solve it right or wrong. If you solve it wrong, it will come back and slap you in the face, and then you can solve it right. Lying dead in the water and doing nothing is a comfortable alternative because it is without risk, but it is an absolutely fatal way to manage a business.”

In this month’s “Expert interview” I speak with Bob Negen, author of the bestselling book, “Marketing Your Retail Store in the Internet Age” and co-founder of WhizBang! Training [affiliate link].

Now don’t get all concerned if you don’t have a retail store! Advances in business come from outside the box, not inside the box. So if a business owner in Industry ‘A’ is doing something that’s amazingly effective, chances are that hardly anybody else outside their industry is doing it. Not in Industry B, C, or even D.

You’ll find there’s a lot to learn from retail that you can apply to your industry.

As you’ll hear, Bob makes an excellent point about skill development for business owners. As their business grows, they need to develop new skills – or they’ll create problems for themselves in areas they can’t manage.

Interestingly, Bob says that the most important skill to master first, is marketing. That’s because, especially when you’re new, generating cash is so important.

Then in this month’s “Front Line” interview I’m speaking with Adam Miller who owns a pool service company near Riverside CA. Adam has almost the perfect business: recurring income, long customer lifetime, and instead of chasing customers, they almost all come to him from the internet!

And yet, like any other business owner, Adam has problems too.
